Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how AussieCashier (referred to below as “the website”, “we” or “us”) collects, uses, discloses and protects information about visitors to this website. It is written to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) issued by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), and, where visitors from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom access the site, with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR respectively.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller of personal information processed through this website is the operator of AussieCashier. Contact details for privacy-related enquiries are published in the Terms & Conditions section and on the contact form available on the website. Where applicable law requires the appointment of a specific representative, that appointment is made and documented separately by the operator.

What information we collect

We collect two broad categories of information.

The first category is information you provide directly. If you submit a message through the contact form, we receive the content of your message together with any details you choose to include, such as a name or email address. If you subscribe to a newsletter, we receive the email address you submit and a record of your consent.

The second category is information collected automatically as you use the website. This includes technical data such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the type of device and browser you use, the operating system, the referring website, the pages you view on our site, the time and duration of your visit, and, where you have consented, aggregated analytics identifiers. This information is collected through server logs and through analytics and cookie technologies described in the Cookies section of this site.

We do not knowingly collect information from persons under the age of 18. This website is intended exclusively for adult readers, in line with Australian responsible gambling standards.

Lawful basis for processing

Where the Privacy Act 1988 applies, we process personal information on the basis that it is reasonably necessary for the functions and activities of an editorial website, or on the basis of your consent, or to meet another legal obligation. For visitors covered by GDPR or UK GDPR, we rely on your consent (for optional cookies and marketing communications), on legitimate interests (for basic site operation, security and audience measurement in aggregate form), or on compliance with a legal obligation.

How we use the information

Information we collect is used to operate and secure the website; to respond to enquiries; to measure audience and improve editorial content; to detect and prevent abuse of the site; and, where you have opted in, to send newsletters or similar communications. We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.

Third-party service providers

We use third-party service providers for hosting, content delivery, analytics and, where relevant, email delivery. These providers process information on our instructions and are contractually bound to protect it. Some providers may be located outside Australia, including in the European Union and the United States. Where personal information is transferred outside Australia, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies and similar technologies are used to remember your preferences, to secure the site, and, subject to your consent, to measure aggregated audience behaviour. Detailed information, including the categories of cookies and how to withdraw consent, is available on our Cookies page.

Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law. Server logs are retained for a short technical window and then aggregated or deleted. Contact-form messages are retained for the period necessary to handle the enquiry and any follow-up. Newsletter subscription data is retained until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to request that it be corrected if inaccurate, and to complain about how we have handled your information. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, you additionally have the right to erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdrawal of consent at any time. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law or in our practices. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the current version came into effect. Continued use of the website after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

How to contact us

Privacy-related enquiries may be submitted through the contact form on the website. Where you wish to formally exercise a right described above, please state the nature of the request clearly so that it can be actioned within a reasonable time.
